Is there a risk of infection from mail parcels and its contents?
"... In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures. Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread most often by respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with imported goods and there have not been any cases of COVID-19 in the United States associated with imported goods."
We (Onlineshop-Asia) take the situation in Thailand very seriously. The official figures in Thailand are still relatively low, but as we have seen, that can change quickly.
Since the beginning of March we only go out of the house if necessary. We always wear breathing masks outside (also because the air values in Chiang Mai are sometimes very bad) - our breathing masks are reusable, filter even the smallest particles such as PM2.5 and are not directly in touch with the mouth. We disinfect our hands and masks before we leave the house and when we come back.
Before processing and packing orders, we wash our hands thoroughly and the workplace is regularly disinfected - due to the currently very low sales figures, we have enough time for these almost exaggerated measures!
Our storage conditions:
Our stock/storage is not accessible to anyone but us (2 people). All goods in it were bought last year 2019. These goods are each stored in many different large plastic boxes, and additionally packed in large plastic bags.
Merely goods from the "Balms, Oils Creams" section are often not in stock, so we buy them new each time. However, the salespeople in Thailand, especially at drug stores and pharmacies, are very hygienic and generally wear gloves and masks at the moment. We also spray the newly purchased goods briefly with disinfectant alcohol before packing (also for our protection).
We are therefore certain that our goods have been packed "corona-free" by us.
Also, since the shipments from Thailand to Europe/USA/Canada usually travel more than 9 days, it can be assumed that an infection by our goods is almost impossible.
We assume that the delivering postal companies in the destination countries are just as careful and preventive with the shipments, but of course we have no influence on that. We therefore recommend that after receiving the shipment, destroy the packaging and wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
We wish everyone health and good mood during this time. We can often not yet assess whether certain measures are necessary or excessive. However, we believe that in caseof doubt or uncertainty a somewhat exaggerated caution is better, and panic and hysteria can thus be avoided.
